Helene Restoration Continues

At long last, the Assembly Drive/Lookout Road intersection is returning to pre-Hurricane Helene standards. Paving, including the stamped concrete crosswalk, is being completed today. Other smaller projects are also being completed, including the Shenandoah bridge paving, Tennessee Road patching, Mississippi Road patching, and several other projects. More will be done soon, including the Assembly Drive/Community Road intersection. Larger projects such as Lookout Road and Appalachian Way will be done, but due to the enormous cost of those projects, we will have to wait until other funds are reimbursed by FEMA.

As we progress with these road projects, please be careful of detours and equipment in roadways. And again, thank you for your patience as we continue moving forward in this long restoration journey.

Montreat Trivia Night a Success!

Montreat’s first Trivia Night was a success last night. Fifty people filled the Town Hall Community Room for a fun and rousing game of trivia with the subject being Montreat. After four rounds of Montreat questions, two teams ended the competition with perfect scores and were grand prize winners. Answering “all things Montreat” with perfect precision were the team of Mary Standaert, Elizabeth Hamilton, Carlton Wilde, and Chris McRae. The other whizz team winner was composed of Lila Ray, Martha Campbell, Ellen Dean, and Alice McRae.

But the real winner was the Town. Almost $3,200 was raised last night for

Town Hall grounds beautification after the hurricane devastation. Funds can still be donated for beautification efforts. Checks can be made out to the Town of Montreat and indicate “Beautification” on the memo line. All contributions are tax deductible.

The Town is extremely grateful to Maggie Elliott and Jan Swetenburg for their inspiration and leadership of the event. Many others were involved, exemplifying the volunteer spirit that is so alive in Montreat. The planning team is considering another Trivia Night, so watch for future announcements.
