Montreat Minute 8/9/24
Mayor’s Summary of the August 8, 2024 Town Council Meeting
Greetings Montreat friends,
On this rainy evening, we had a good turnout for the August Council meeting. We are always grateful for interest and participation in the meetings.
My summary follows below, but the official minutes will be in next month’s agenda packet. Of course, you can view tonight’s meeting recording by CLICKING HERE.
Public Forum
- Tom Frist commented that he is happy with the progress on the Texas Road pedestrian bridge, but wondered what the plans were for the adjacent park to be dedicated to Billy and Ruth Graham. I and several other Commissioners said that the bridge is phase one, which needs to be completed, or at least substantially completed, prior to subsequent phases. We do not have funds budgeted for the park, so funds will have to be budgeted or privately raised to complete the park. We assured Tom that the idea will not be forgotten.

Leaving Montreat in an Emergency
In the event of an emergency, did you know that the Town has set up emergency evacuation routes? It is unlikely, but if there was a disaster, such as a wildfire or flood and everyone had to evacuate Montreat, there are three evacuation routes. The primary route is Assembly Drive. Two secondary routes on higher ground are available on the north and south sides of Flat Creek.
Should there be such a need, Town police and other staff would direct traffic. But we recommend you familiarize yourself with the best route based on your location. The map is available on the Town website by CLICKING HERE.
**A note from the Zoning Administrator: Should a homeowner incur damages from wind/rain or other weather event please contact the Zoning Administrator before conducting any repairs.**
Where’s Monte This Week?
Last week Monte was too wily! No one guessed where he visited! Monte was on Flat Creek at the crossing at the end of Texas Road Extension, across from the Billy Graham offices!
This week Monte has been very busy. He helped the Public Works Department make sure all the storm drains were clear!
Then he decided to remind residents to be BearWise and secure your trash!!
Finally, Monte found a nice, quiet, cool place to rest. Can you identify where Monte rested in the photo below?
Where in Montreat is Monte this week?
Send your guess to [email protected] by Monday at noon to win a prize! First correct answer will win!
