Montreat Minute for July 12, 2019

Mayor’s Meeting Summary Greetings Montreaters and Happy Summer,

We had a very productive Council meeting. We appreciate the 18 people who came to be a part of and observe the proceedings. Here are the highlights:

Public Forum questions/comments included: o Harris Ricks shared his concern with Duke Power’s use of chemical sprays to kill vegetation under power lines. He has seen it in his own yard as well as other locations throughout Montreat. His concern is not only the effects upon the beauty of Montreat, but also chemicals leaching into our clean streams and creeks. We will look into it with Duke Power. CLICK HERE to read more…

Town Hall Update Work is beginning in earnest on the new Town Hall. Grading has been done and now the footings will be dug to support the building structure. However, due to safety reasons, the “sidewalk” path in front of the building will not be accessible any more until after construction is completed and a new, permanent sidewalk is in place. Please be careful if you are walking or riding a bike on the shoulder of Montreat Road in front of the construction.

Bulk Pick Up Completed Town staff have completed this week’s bulk pickup. Due to the volume of items, it took several days to complete the entire pickup. And, just a reminder that the second bulk pick up of the year will occur on Tuesday, October 29. Mark your calendars!

That’s it for now. Have a great weekend
