Hurricane Helene Image

The intersection of Assembly Drive and Lookout Road

As you know, Montreat sustained catastrophic damage during Hurricane Helene. Fortunately, and unlike other nearby communities, no lives were lost thanks to the quick action of the Montreat Police and Public Works Departments.

However, unprecedented damage has been incurred to the Town’s infrastructure.   All five bridges across Flat Creek were impassable; All 18 miles of roadway have severe damage with some still impassable; Water is still not drinkable without boiling; And so much more.

But even before it happened, our Public Works staff and Montreat Police Department were preparing for and did heroic work during and afterward clearing roads, bringing bridges online, rebuilding the water system, making welfare checks on residents, and clearing debris. They worked tirelessly putting in 20 hour days.

Unfortunately, our payroll budget did not anticipate such a catastrophe and our general budget has been hit hard with fees from contractors who are helping recover and restore our Town. Funds are needed to cover these costs and rebuild the Montreat infrastructure. Your donation will help us recover. They can be made in two ways:
