Zoning Questions?

If you’re planning a project, making property changes, or just aren’t sure what’s allowed, it’s always a good idea to check in with Zoning. This includes things like adding a deck or porch, building a shed, driveway changes, fencing, or renovations. Staff can help clarify requirements and save you time before you get started. Shelly Johnston, the Zoning Administrator, can be reached at zoning@townofmontreat.org
Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan This Sunday, May 24

Each year on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, Montreat Presbyterian Church marks the historical origins of Presbyterianism by worshiping with the Montreat Scottish Society’s Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan service in Anderson Auditorium in Montreat. It is one of the nation’s largest Kirkin’ servces. The Montreat Scottish Pipes & Drums will lead the procession of banners. The 2026 service will be held on Sunday, May 24 at 11:00 A.M.
Come celebrate Montreat’s Scottish heritage (Scottish roots not required!).
Town Hall Landscaping

Last fall, many of you gathered for a fun evening of friendly competition at Trivia Night, hosted by Montreat Friends Forward.
Thanks to your participation and generosity, that goal has come to life. Funds raised from Trivia Night have been used to support new landscaping around Town Hall.
Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and helped make this effort a success, with special thanks to Maggie Elliott and Jan Swetenburg for their leadership. Montreat looks better because of you!
Reminders and Updates From Montreat Police Department

As we move further into the spring season, pedestrian activity around town is already picking up. With more residents, visitors, and families out walking, please be mindful of your speed when driving through Montreat. Slowing down and staying alert, especially around curves, intersections, and popular walking routes, helps keep everyone safe. A few extra seconds can make a big difference.
Also, a reminder to continue locking your car doors and removing any food or scented items to help keep bears from becoming a problem. Bear activity remains steady, and prevention is key.
The Montreat Police Department, in partnership with the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program, has launched its annual Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” Campaign. This campaign runs from May 18 through May 31 and is focused on increasing seat belt use during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The Montreat Police Department launched its very own Facebook page. Give them a follow by CLICKING HERE.
