MPD Recommends Locking Vehicle Doors

The Montreat Police Department encourages Cottagers, renters and visitors to lock vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside. There has been a recent uptick in car break-ins in Swannanoa.

Speaking of break ins, hungry bears are also experts at getting into unlocked cars. They have an uncanny ability to open unlocked car doors in pursuit of food. Ironically, once they get in, often the door closes and locks the bear inside the car. A man in Black Mountain experienced such a break-in on his BMW. In his effort to escape, the bear did such damage that the car was “totaled” by the insurance company. So, “lock before leaving.”

PHC Offers Weekly Writing Class: “Stories from the Storm”

How do you find the words to tell the stories of the storms you’ve survived? Whether it’s Hurricane Helene and its aftermath, a worrying diagnosis, loss and the grief that follows, or any other of life’s various storms, writing about your experiences can feel impossible. But it doesn’t have to be.

The Presbyterian Heritage Center invites you to join with others for a time of guided writing designed to help you find your words. The sessions will help you begin writing, rather than to construct a finished narrative for publication. No formal writing experience is necessary and no sharing will be required. All materials will be provided, but bring your favorite notebook and pen if you have them.

Offered in conjunction with MRA, classes are held every Wednesday from 2;30-3:30pm  in June and July at the PHC, 318 Georgia Terrace and taught by Lauren Graeber. Fees are $10 per class. Register by CLICKING HERE. The sessions are not sequential, so come to any or all.
