Montreat Native Plant Sale and Arbor Day Celebration April 22

The Montreat Landcare Committitteโ€™s 2023 Native Plant Sale and Arbor Day observance are scheduled for Saturday, April 22, from 9am to 2pm at the Moore Center field by Lake Susan. Come by for a day of shopping, learning, eating, visiting, and enjoying the beauty of Montreat.

Community volunteers are needed on the day of the sale to assist vendors and shoppers. For more information or to volunteer, contact Betty Douglas at bettydoug57@gmail.com or by cell at 662-392-3050.

Bears Are Awake and Very Hungry!

Three black bears climb a tall tree outside a window with reflections, surrounded by other trees and a house partially visible in the background at dusk.

Be aware that bears are awake and they are very hungry. Natural food like berries and nuts are not currently available, so bears are foraging for anything to eat, especially things like our trash and birdseed. The five bears (can you find all five?) found the bird feeder and made a meal of the seed during daylight hours. So, be careful to monitor bird feeders and secure trash, especially during this lean food period for bears.
