Town Council Meeting Thursday, September 10, at 6:00 pm

The Montreat Town Council will meet for its monthly meeting next Thursday, September 10th at 6:00 pm in the Town Hall Community Room.The Public Forum precedes the Council Meeting, beginning at 5:30 pm. Convenience Center Update

A reminder that the Convenience Center door locking system will go into effect next Tuesday, September 8, 2026. To enter, wave your key fob in front of the black verifier box on your left as you approach the gate. The gate will automatically unlock for you. Open the gate and the door will close automatically. To leave, simply push the bar on the gate and you can exit.

Obtain your key fob in one of two ways:

  1. Stop by the Town Hall to register and pick it up any time between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Don’t forget that the Town Hall will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day.
  2. Fill out an online form and the fob will be sent to you via US Mail. CLICK HERE for the form.

Several other important points about the new system:

  • The gate will be locked at all times with entrance available only with the key fob
  • There is no charge for the key fob
  • If lost, the old key fob will be deactivated and unusable. A new fob will be issued at a replacement cost of $50.
  • One fob will be issued per household
  • The Convenience Center will be available 24/7. However, MPD and Public Works recommend that you access it between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm for safety reasons.

These changes and improvements will result in use only by Montreat residents/guests. That means there will be virtually no completely full dumpsters anymore, preventing you from depositing your trash.

There will be a dedicated time at the October Town Council meeting to share your experiences and suggestions about the new system. Thank you for helping secure trash more effectively.

The current updated website was introduced in 2018. Since then, much information and functionality have been added. But oftentimes we get stuck on doing things the same way and miss opportunities to learn new information and shortcuts. Periodically, we will be providing hints on how to find information on the Town website.

How to watch recorded meetings

The Town has its own YouTube channel. All meeting recordings are posted to the YouTube channel and can be watched on your computer or phone. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the webpage. Look for the YouTube logo and click on it.

You will then have access to all recorded meetings, including Town Council, Commissions, Boards, and Committees, back to 2020.

Updates and Reminders

  • A reminder that the Town Offices will be closed on Monday, September 7th, in observance of Labor Day. Trash pickup will be delayed until Tuesday, but the Convenience Center will be open.
  • Save the Date: On Tuesday, September 29th, the Cottagers are sponsoring a “Meet the Montreat Candidates” Open House. Although the election is uncontested, the Cottagers are giving Montreaters the opportunity to meet and get to know the three candidates who are running for Town Council. Come to the Town Hall Community Room from 4:30 to 5:30.
  • The Montreat Tree Board will meet on Tuesday, September 8th, at 9:00 am, in the Town Hall Community Room. The meeting will also be live streamed. For additional information and streaming instructions, CLICK HERE. All are invited to attend.
