Be Prepared: I-40 Westbound to be Closed Again this Weekend
A stretch of Interstate 40 will close again this weekend like two weekends ago. Weather permitting, crews will continue rehabilitating bridges and resurfacing between Hendersonville Road (Exit 50) and I-26 East (Exit 46A) from 8:00pm Friday through Monday at 6:00am. Traffic will be detoured along I-240 from Friday night to Monday morning. Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic on to and off I-240.
Plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.
Receive Text Emergency Notifications from the Town– We Just Need Your Info
As you may recall, the town recently transferred to a new financial system. As part of that system, we are able to send out emergency notifications, including items such as:
- Boil Water Notifications
- Road Closures
- MPD Messages
The new system texts notifications to residents, giving you instant information. However, for you to participate, you will need to provide updated cell phone numbers so we can ensure you receive the notifications. There are two ways to update your information:
- Email your mobile phone numbers to [email protected]
- Visit www.municipalonlinepayments.com/montreatnc, then register. Note, you do not have to sign up for utility bill pay in order to register. It takes three minutes to register (honestly, that’s all it takes!).
Please do not call the Town Office to provide your updated information. Instead, use one of the two options above.
Treasured Tree Walk Rescheduled
The treasured Tree Walk, originally scheduled for last weekend, was cancelled. It has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 19th, from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
In January, the Town Council voted to participate in the Swannanoa Valley Tree Alliance’s Treasured Tree program. Fourteen special trees in Montreat have been selected to be designated in the Treasured Tree program and marked accordingly.
The Walk is a tour of the 14 trees. The tour is approximately 2-2.5 miles, with stops along the route to learn about the history and significance of each tree. For additional information, including the tour starting point and other key facts, CLICK HERE.
