Receive Text Emergency Notifications from the Town– We Just Need Your Info

As you may recall, the town recently transferred to a new financial system. As part of that system, we are able to send out emergency notifications, including items such as:

· Boil Water Notifications

· Road Closures

· Montreat Police Department Messages

The new system texts notifications to residents, giving you instant information. However, for you to participate, you will need to provide updated cell phone numbers so we can ensure you receive the notifications. There are two ways to update your information: 1. Email your mobile phone numbers to [email protected] 2. Visit www.municipalonlinepayments.com/montreatnc, then register. Note, you do not have to sign up for utility bill pay in order to register. It takes three minutes to register (honestly, that’s all it takes!).

Please do not call the Town Office to provide your updated information. Instead, use one of the two options above.

Need to Reach the Montreat Police Department? A Quick Refresher

Several residents have inquired about the process to contact the Montreat Police Department. Here’s a quick “primer” on the process:

· For Emergency Situations: Call 911 for situations such as fire, ambulance, intrusions, and life threatening situations. Give them your address and they will immediately dispatch the appropriate emergency response team to your home or specified location.

· For Non-Emergency Situations: Call the Dispatch number at 828/250-6670. Please know that this is not a Montreat dispatch center. Most of the municipalities in the area, including Montreat, use a central dispatch call center. Give them your address and they will get in touch with the Montreat Police Department. You do not have to ask to speak to Montreat Police. They will know who to call based on the address you provide.

Montreat Native Plant Sale and Arbor Day Celebration Tomorrow May 4

Come tomorrow, Saturday, May 4th to the 2024 Native Plant Sale and Arbor Day observance from 9am to 2pm at the Moore Center field at Lake Susan. Come for a day of shopping, learning, eating, visiting and enjoying the beauty that is afforded us in this special place. Additionally, the Landcare Committee and the Tree Board will have exhibits about their efforts to enhance the natural setting we enjoy. Kids activities will be available as well.

Also Tomorrow: Treasured Tree Walk

In January, the Town Council voted to participate in the Swannanoa Valley Tree Alliance’s Treasured Tree program. Fourteen special trees in Montreat have been selected to be designated in the Treasured Tree program and marked accordingly.

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 4, from 10:00am to noon, a walking tour of the 14 trees will be held. The tour is approximately 2-2.5 miles, with stops along the route to learn about the history and significance of each tree.
