Montreat Minute 3/15/24
Montreat Minute for March 15, 2024
Mayor’s Summary of the March 14, 2024 Town Council Meeting
Hello Montreaters!
I’m not sure if it was the agenda or a beautiful 70-degree evening that brought everyone out to fill up the Town Hall Community Room! We were very appreciative of everyone’s participation tonight.
My meeting summary follows below, but the official minutes will be in next month’s agenda packet. And remember that you can view tonight’s meeting recording by CLICKING HERE.
Public Forum
- The Public Forum began a little differently than usual. I opened the Forum with a question: What is your opinion about creating a special honorary designation of Assembly Drive as Billy Graham Way? We showed a sample of how the signage might look and I explained that we are not suggesting renaming Assembly Drive. It will always be Assembly Drive. But, we would do an honorary designation as Billy Graham Drive with street signs indicating so. I then opened it up for public comments. Six individuals spoke:

We Want Your Opinion
As reported in the Mayor’s Meeting Minutes of last night’s Town Council Meeting, there was an open discussion about creating an honorary designation of Assembly Drive as Billy Graham Way. A few residents voiced their opinions at the meeting, but we want to hear from others.
Please take a short survey to give us your opinion on the idea of the honorary designation. Again, to be clear, Assembly Drive will remain Assembly Drive. No name change is being considered. Instead, there would be a special designation with street signs on Assembly Drive much like the one in the photograph above.
Take the two minute survey by CLICKING HERE. We want to hear from you.
Preparing to Dredge Lake Susan
You may have noticed a boat on Lake Susan recently. These are not recreational boaters. They are scientists who were taking measures and samples from the lake, all of which is part of the preparation for dredging. The heavy work is scheduled for the fall, but preliminary tasks are being done now so that everything will be ready to dredge when the time comes.
MRA is very appreciative of the State of North Carolina for including this project in the state budget. We will keep you informed of timing and progress as fall grows closer.
Does Your Water Bill Look Higher than Normal? — Just a Reminder
You may recall from the February 23rd Montreat Minute that two Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) charges were inadvertently left off your February water bill and would be added to your March bill. Those charges were added to the bills that were sent this week. Everything will be properly handled next month and provided your water consumption is normal next month, your bill should be lower than this month’s bill.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience.
