Montreat Minute 01/05/24

As you may know, predictions are for bad weather starting late tonight and into tomorrow. The Town received a notification from Duke Energy this morning that said, in part:

“Currently, Duke Energy meteorologists forecast widespread precipitation will overspread the area Friday night into Saturday morning with the main winter weather impact of accumulating ice due to freezing rain for the mountains and foothills. The forecast is for precipitation to begin as snow and sleet/ice pellets across the mountains toward western Triad, then transition to freezing rain across the valleys and lower elevations before becoming a cold rain by the afternoon hours.

“The Mountain Zone has the potential for ice accumulations 0.10-0.25” with locally higher amounts up to 0.30” possible.  Across the higher elevations, several inches of snow accumulation are likely.”

For other pertinent information, you may access the Duke Energy Outage Map, report an outage and sign up for text message alerts by visiting the Duke Energy Storm Center. Town staff will be on the ready to take care of roads and any down trees. Be careful.

Cottager Directory to be Reprinted in 2024

It’s that time again: the Montreat Cottager Directory Committee is updating the Montreat Directory for 2024. The Directory is updated every four years. As part of the updating process, individual emails will be sent to all Montreat homeowners toward the end of January. The email will contain the most up-to-date contact information the Directory Committee has for you. Please review the information in the email and follow the directions to confirm the information or to make corrections. You can also opt not to be included in the directory.

There are a lot of moving parts to updating this document, and the Directory Committee appreciates your taking the time to provide the information by the deadline. The new Directory will be on sale to Montreat homeowners over the July 4th weekend next year. Details regarding sales will be announced in the Montreat Minute and MRA Announcements late next spring.

If you have any questions, contact Laurie Morgan at [email protected] or 828-669-7626. The Directory Committee, which puts a great deal of time and effort into the Directory, is composed of Meredith Greene, Ellen Henschen, Laurie Morgan, Grace Nichols, and Ann Vinson. Thank them for their work.
