The Town operates, in large part, through the work of volunteers. Be a part of our government process by volunteering for one of these opportunities.

Montreat Earns Tree City Award for Eighth Year

The Town of Montreat earned Tree City USA status from the national Arbor Day Foundation for the eighth consecutive year. Montreat is one of 3,600 communities across the USA to achieve this designation. In his letter to Mayor Helms, Arbor Day Chief Executive Don Lambe stated, “I’m thrilled to congratulate Montreat on earning recognition as a 2022 Tree City USA. Residents of Montreat should be proud to live in a community that makes the planting and care of tees a priority.”

Montreat achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting four program requirements:

  1. Having an active tree board
  2. Having a tree-care ordinance
  3. Having an annual community forestry budget
  4. Having an annual Arbor Day observance and proclamation

“In Montreat, trees mean so much to us,” stated Mayor Tim Helms. “The beauty of our trees and forests is what makes Montreat Montreat. We understand the importance of stewardship that is required to positively affect our cove’s ecosystem and beauty.”

Come to a Party at the PHC!

The Presbyterian Heritage Center on Georgia Terrace is one of Montreat’s most valuable and educational resources. Yet there are many Montreaters and visitors who have little or no knowledge of what the PHC offers! A group of your neighbors is hosting five gatherings at the PHC to “show off” this community jewel. Come and enjoy wine and refreshments, a behind the scenes “backstage tour”, fellowship with neighbors, and even some prizes.

The gatherings are scheduled for today as well as February 28 and March 2 and 10 from 4:00 to 5:00pm. Please RSVP to the PHC by calling 828-669-6556 or emailing [email protected] with name, number attending and preferred date. Come learn and have fun!

Updates and Reminders

  • The Montreat Tree Board will NOT meet on Tuesday, February 28th at 9:30 am, in the Town Hall Community Room.
