Montreat Minute 12/23/22

Town Offices Holiday Schedule

Here is the Town Office schedule for both Christmas and New Year. For Christmas, offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday, December 26 and 27. For New Year, the office will be closed on Monday, January 2. Of course, the Montreat Police Department will be operating 24/7 as usual.

Trash pickup will be affected on both holidays. For Christmas, pickup will not occur until Wednesday, December 28. For New Year, trash service will resume on Tuesday, January 3.

Please note that despite the delay in trash service, the sanitation convenience center adjacent to the Town Hall will be available 24/7 during the entire holiday period. Cross over the Flat Creek bridge on Rainbow Terrace and you will see the dumpsters up the hill on the right. The recycle dumpster is on the left and the regular trash dumpster is on the right. Security is ensured, as there are cameras monitoring activity at the convenience center.

Bear Initiative Tips and Reminders

As you know, the Town has been busy writing and rewriting ordinances involving bears and bear hunting. Periodically until bear season concludes on January 2, 2023,

we will be providing tips and reminders on dealing with this situation.

A reminder that bear hunting season ends on January 2, 2023. Last year, most of the incidents we encountered occurred between Christmas and New Year. With just a few days remaining, Hunters are out working to secure their limit. Please be careful while walking and hiking. Report any illegal activity you observe by calling police dispatch at 828/250-6670.

Watch Night Service in Montreat

Please join the Montreat Cottagers for a brief New Year’s Eve Watch Night vespers service to give thanks for God’s love and care during the past year and to consider the many ways in which we may watch for God in the coming year.

The service will be led by Rev. Drs. Wanda and William Neely on Saturday, December 31, at 5:00 p.m. in Graham Chapel in Gaither Hall. An offering will be received for the benefit of three local charities.
