Mayor’s Meeting Summary of Last Night’s Town Council Meeting

Greetings Montreat friends,

The Town Council convened with a handful of Montreaters sitting in the handful of chairs in the Community Room. Others joined us via our live Zoom broadcast.

Here’s a summary of the meeting:

  • Public Forum questions/comments included:
    • Shirley Mitchell gave praises to Nancy Midgette for Nancy’s help and expertise in assessing the Mitchell’s house for Firewise preparedness. Shirley said, “Nancy is gracious, very professional, ‘knows’ her subject, and furnished us a written report.” Thanks to Nancy for her dedication to protecting our community through Firewise.

COVID-19 Update

The Governor has announced a new Executive Order that will be effective at 5:00pm today, Friday, November 13. The Order includes two new provisions:

Right of Way Parking Claims

We have become aware of the increasing number of “reserved parking” signs placed by residents at their homes but on Town right-of-way property. Many homes without driveways have a Right-of-Way Agreement with the Town for parking, usually on the Town right-of-way. It is against the Right-of-Way Agreement and Town ordinances to claim reserved status for such parking, as the land is public property.

If you have erected reserved parking signs, please remove them so you are not in violation of Town ordinances and agreements. If you are unsure if your parking area is part of the Right-of-Way agreement, please contact Town staff at 828/669-8002, x1 or write [email protected].

A Note from our Postmaster

Montreat Postmaster Tim Bryson asked us to pass on an important announcement about packages expected from Amazon Prime. For residents that anticipate receiving Amazon Prime packages on Saturdays and Sundays delivered to the Post Office address (301 Assembly Drive), please be aware that packages are being dropped off by Amazon Prime in the Post Office lobby and will remain unsecured until staff arrives on Mondays.  If ordering Amazon packages that are scheduled to arrive on the weekend, please use your physical address for the sake of safety. Amazon Prime will deliver packages to your physical address.

Please note that this situation applies only to Amazon Prime. Packages from UPS and FedEx are not delivered on weekends. Tim is working with Amazon Prime to resolve this security issue.
