Town Council

As mentioned in the Mayor’s Town Council Meeting Summary on August 9, Commissioner Bill Gilliland announced his resignation from the Board of Commissioners effective August 8. Bill stated that he and his wife, Lynn, would be moving into the dorm at the Asheville School as part of Lynn’s responsibilities as a faculty member at the school. The Mayor and Council expressed their gratitude for Bill’s service. He and Lynn will be missed.

The Mayor announced the process and procedure for filling Bill’s vacancy. As outlined by state law, at the September meeting the Town Council will make nominations to fulfill Bill’s unexpired term (December 2020). They will then have a ballot vote of the nominees to fill the unexpired term.

More “Did You Know?”

July is always the highest activity month at Montreat, and some of our statistics bear it out. For example, did you know that:

  • 4,930,889 gallons of water were produced last month
  • 1,414 curbside sanitation stops were conducted
  • 9,340 pounds of recycling was collected (keep up the good work!)
  • 631 calls were responded to by the Montreat Police Department

Thanks to our Town staff for the outstanding service they provide.

Sanitation Pickup

Just a reminder that Friday sanitation pick ups will conclude for the season next Friday, August 30. Monday pick ups will continue as always. Special Town trash and recycle bags are available at the Town Services building for $1.00 apiece, and may be dropped off 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday outside the Town Services offices.

That’s it for now. Have a great weekend
