Montreat Minute April 26, 2019
Don’t Miss the Native Plant Sale Tomorrow!
Don’t miss the Montreat Native Plant Sale and Arbor Day Celebration, tomorrow, Saturday, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. at Moore Field. It offers a wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants as well as opportunities to learn about native plants and gardening. Also, learn about Montreat outdoors. Have fun eating from J. Lee’s Chicken Shack food truck and listening to music from Rhiannon and the Relics. Special programs are planned throughout the day. Learn about salamanders (including two creek walks!), including the very special Hellbender. And learn to make a rain garden. CLICK HERE for a brochure.
Bears are Awake!
As some of you know by first hand observation, the black bears are awake and in active motion! We’ve had reports of bears getting into trash, birdfeeders and anything else somewhat edible. Please be aware of them and be “bear wise”, meaning:
• Keep trash in your home or in bear proof containers until the morning of trash pick up (Mondays)
• Bring in bird feeders (including hummingbird feeders) at dusk • Do not feed bears under any circumstances
• Don’t approach bears, especially mothers with cubs
Road Paving
As mentioned in a previous Montreat Minute, several roads are scheduled to be repaved, including Texas Road, Calvin Trail and Frist Road. Provided the weather cooperates, the paving is scheduled to be done soon. Watch the website (www.townofmontreat.org) for road closure information.
Board of Adjustment Rescheduled
Last evening’s Board of Adjustment meeting has been continued to next Wednesday at 10:00am due to lack of a quorum. The meeting will be held in the Walkup Building. Have a great weekend and don’t forget the Native Plant Sale!
