Update on Planning and Zoning Review Process

The Planning and Zoning Commission met recently to begin a seven month process to review the Zoning Ordinance and make recommendations for changes at the request of the Montreat Board of Commissioners.

The Committee began the process by taking public comment on all aspects of the Ordinance. The Commission will meet every third Thursday of the month at 5:00pm until July to review different sections of the Ordinance before writing a final recommendation. Opportunities to comment will continue each month. Please come and offer your views on development in Montreat. The next meeting will be February 21 in the Walkup Building.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteerism helps move our Town government forward. One of the most important volunteer opportunities is service on committees and commissions. Several are in need of volunteers including the Board of Adjustment and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Did You Know?

Since it’s a slow news week, we thought you would like to know several facts about Town services:

  • Did you know that Water Services provided 2,624,700 gallons of water last month? That would be the equivalent of water contained in approximately 130 home swimming pools!
  • Sanitation Services made 1,735 curbside stops last month and picked up nearly 33,000 pounds of trash and recycling.
