Dam Release at Lake Susan

In coordination with the Towns of Montreat and Black Mountain, at 1:00 PM today the Mountain Retreat Association (M.R.A.)  opened a release valve on the dam at Lake Susan. The M.R.A.’s intent is to lower lake levels in advance of Hurricane Florence. Regulations allow preemptive releases of up to 12 inches a day, which should increase the capacity of the Montreat cove to absorb and process rain in the storm with less impact to those downstream.

Please use caution when near waterways before, during, and after the storm.

You can monitor the changes in Flat Creek levels by searching our zipcode (28757) on the N.C.F.I.N.M.A.N. page linked here.
