Montreat is a heavily forested community nestled in between ridges of the Black Mountains of Western North Carolina. The wooded features are a central characteristic of the landscape of our Town, and we proactively manage trees in our public spaces. Our Public Works Director recently became a certified arborist.
Montreat has established a Tree Board to advise the Town Commission on the management of publicly owned trees in its jusitiction. The Treee Board advised the Commission on the establishement of the Tree Ordiance and a Tree Management Plan. Addittionally, the Tree Board spearheaded the completion of Phase I of a public tree inventory, collecting data and mapping trees in right-of-way.
Montreat is a Member of Tree City USA, the North Carolina Urban Forestry Council, and is working towards designation as a Firewise Community.
