Message from the Mayor – Sept. 30, 2024
What a devastating experience we had on Friday. With all the damage, we are extremely fortunate that there was no loss of life. Our hearts are broken for the families of the souls who perished in the storm around us.
I wish I had good news to share, but there is very little. We do not have an estimate from Duke energy on the restoration of power. Our public works crew is repairing water lines and identifying other related issues. I can’t give you an update on water, but will keep you up-to-date on the progress.
On the positive side, two bridges are now passable. Assembly Circle on the barn side and Shenandoah. Public works is actively working on the Lookout Road bridge and making it passable.
The convenience center is available for trash and recyclables, but don’t count on curbside pick up for a while.
To me, the most impressive part of all this was our public works, and Police Department staff. Many have only had a few hours sleep since Thursday. And, they have been joined by others – both professionals and volunteers. There are many stories of people working together, helping neighbors, and doing what needs to be done. For that, I am most grateful and because of it we will persevere and get through this.
Thank you for all you are doing. Blessings,
Mayor Tim
