Latest Monthly Activity Report

The Building inspector/Code Administrator inspects residential and commercial building construction for compliance with codes in five trade areas, as well as minimum housing and fire prevention code standards.  He reviews site plans, blueprints, surveys and other specifications, and monitors the construction process to ensure compliance with all pertinent regulatory codes and ordinances.  He prepares, issues and maintains all inspection and permit records and certificates, and provides technical support to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.  Mr. Currie also receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance, and attends multiple training opportunities to maintain and enhance his professional certifications and job knowledge.

Lien Agent Requirements Effective April 1, 2013

Effective for real property construction projects beginning on or after April 1, 2013, North Carolina law requires appointment of a lien agent. A lien agent is a title insurer or agent also registered as a lien agent with the North Carolina Department of Insurance. A website, www.liensnc.com, is now available with an on-line application and tools for users to file the necessary applications and search for existing filings. The Appointment of Lien Agent document issued from the LiensNC system should then be attached to the Building Permit Application. Please contact Mr. Currie with any further questions about these new requirements, or send an e-mail to support@liensnc.com.
