Town Announcements for August 31

Happy Labor Day

Monday is Labor Day, which marks the unofficial start of Fall. Please note that the Town Offices will be closed Monday and will reopen Tuesday at 8:00am.

Trash Pick Up

Two important notices about trash pick up:

  • Due to Monday’s holiday, trash pick up is being rescheduled to Tuesday, Sept. 4
  • September also marks the return to one trash pick up per week on Mondays.

Town Hall Progress

As reported earlier this week, the Town Council met Monday to hear presentations from the three finalist Design/Build firms. They then voted to begin contract negotiations with Sineath Construction/Maury Hurt Architecture. Hurt has extensive ties and experience with Montreat, including his father as President of Montreat College for 11 years. Sineath Construction has done a number of projects here including home renovations and new construction. The Council believes the combination of creative vision, understanding of the project, and high quality construction will serve the project well.

We will keep you informed as to next steps, which will include a community input session. For now, check the Capital Projects Page for information and updates.

Detour!

On Tuesday, September 4, the town will be removing a large tree on Assembly Drive requiring a crane to assist in the work. Assembly will be closed between Louisiana Road and the Post Office. Detour signs will be posted. Please proceed carefully and plan accordingly.
