Montreat Minute: Montreat Has Grown!!

Montreat Has Grown!!

The size of the Town grew last week, it really did! The property that we bought from MRA for the new Town Hall was not within Town limits, but in Black Mountain instead. Earlier this year the Town, along with Black Mountain, began the process of de-annexing the property from Black Mountain and annexing it to the Town of Montreat.

But, it takes a state law to de-annex property. Working with our local delegation in Raleigh, we had a bill introduced in the legislature to take care of the transfer. The bill passed in the Senate first and passed in the House last week. It became official last Thursday. Take a look at the map of the new, expanded Montreat by clicking HERE. What you see in light green is the Town Hall property, which now represents the new expanded Town boundaries. Many thanks to the Town of Black Mountain for their willingness to de-annex the property to us. We’re also thankful for our local delegation and their bi-partisan support of this effort in the legislature. Senator Edwards and Representative Ager led the efforts in their respective chambers, but Senator Van Duyn and Representatives Fisher and Turner were strong backers and supporters of the bill. We are most grateful for their work in making this happen.
